Professor emeritus reacts to Biden’s ‘you ain’t black’ comments

Adolph Reed Jr., professor emeritus of political science at the University of Pennsylvania, reacted to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s “you ain’t black” comments by saying people shouldn’t be debating whether the former vice president takes the black vote for granted.

If people are serious about trying to advance the issues that most black Americans are concerned about, especially at this moment, the approach ought to be something more like pressing Biden to get beyond one of the Jayapal bills,” he said, referring to Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s (D-Wash.) Medicare expansion bills.

Biden was criticized after saying on a radio show last week that “you ain’t black” if you support President Trump. He later said he regretted the remark.
