HuffPost reporter: Biden’s VP shortlist doesn’t suggest progressive economic policies

HuffPost senior reporter Zach Carter said in an interview with Hill.TV that presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s vice presidential shortlist doesn’t indicate an interest in pursuing progressive economic policies.

“If he were really thinking about big changes in macroeconomic policy, he would be looking for somebody from the progressive wing of the party … and so far, he just hasn’t shown any interest in that,” Carter said.

Carter said vice presidential contenders like former national security adviser Susan Rice, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) aren’t experts on fiscal policy, and wouldn’t have much of an impact on how Biden views debt and deficit, leaving the public to wonder how a Biden administration might approach government spending.

Carter did not list Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on his list of top vice presidential candidates. Warren is considered the most progressive of Biden’s potential picks.
