Steve Cortes, senior strategy adviser to President Trump’s reelection campaign, said Wednesday that Democrats may be leading in early voting numbers in Florida but Republicans should expect a surge on Election Day in the nation’s largest swing state.
Hill.TV’s “Rising” co-host Saagar Enjeti cited early voting data in Florida indicating that Democrats currently lead Republicans by 385,000 votes.
“The Democrats have really scared the bejeezus out of their voters, they really have, with an irrational level of fear regarding the virus,” Cortes said. “What they’re doing, we believe, and the data shows this really, is they are massively cannibalizing their game day, their Election Day tolls.”
“I think the Democrats have made a major mistake here,” he continued. “To some degree, they have really poisoned the minds of their followers. They have them whipped up into an irrational level of fear of the virus. And look, we take the virus seriously and we know that vulnerable people need to be really, really careful, but we also refuse to live in fear of the virus, and we refuse to live in fear of each other.”
Cortes concluded by asserting that GOP voters “don’t have that level of irrational fear and I think we’re going to see, again, game day attendance, game day voting is going to be massive for Team Trump.”
In 2016, President Trump won Florida’s 29 electoral votes by approximately 1.2 percentage points over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
