Vox senior political reporter Jane Coaston said that Republicans are likely “concerned” about President Trump’s influence on the GOP when he leaves the White House.
Speaking on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Coaston said that the president’s efforts to draw attention to himself have resulted in a “massive fundraising boost” for the GOP.
However, she said that figuring out what the party’s staunch support for Trump will mean when he’s no longer the president is a challenge.
“I think that if you’re a Republican, you’re concerned here because a lot of pressure Republicans are facing is both ground up and top down,” Coaston said.
“We don’t know how powerful Trump will be as a messenger when he is no longer the president of the United States and when he just becomes another loud person on the internet,” she added.
Coaston noted that even though a lot of potential 2024 GOP frontrunners are sticking close to him right now, his messaging may not be as effective in the future.
“Who knows how powerful a Trumpian message is when it’s coming from a Trump who is two years, four years into the future?” she asked.
