Sirota slams short-lived candidacy of Raimondo as Biden’s health secretary

Daily Poster founder David Sirota slammed the short-lived candidacy of Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) as President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary.

Raimondo said on Thursday that she was not going to be Biden’s nominee for the top health post after she had emerged as a top contender for the position. However, her nomination was quickly slammed by progressives.

Sirota said on Hill.TV’s “Rising”, that Raimondo’s candidacy showed that Biden’s transition team is not “taking into account the potential downsides of some of these candidates.”

“She had Medicaid cuts in Rhode Island. Rhode Island is one of the places where the COVID outbreak has been the worst, and one of the worst managed,” he said.

“We obtained documents showing that when healthcare lobbyists went to her and asked her for an executive order giving legal liability shields to nursing homes, she snapped and did that immediately, even amid the death toll that was exploding in her state,” Sirota added.

Sirota continued to say that if the nominee for HHS secretary was in a position of oversight during the pandemic, “they’re going to have to face tough questions about whether they managed that situation properly.”
