No Excuses PAC founder Corbin Trent, a former spokesperson for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), said Monday that the incoming Biden administration “[doesn’t] have time” to tailor its agenda around what will get Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.V.) vote in the Senate.
President-elect Biden, Trent said, “seems like maybe he gets that we’re in a moment right now that’s going to require swift action … he’s talking about spending trillions of dollars on infrastructure, he’s talking about going big when it comes to sending people direct payments, and then you’ve got people like Joe Manchin that are going to be trying to pull back the party and hold us back.”
“I think we just don’t have time for that,” he added, surmising that the administration had approximately “six months to get some work done, to actually have an impact on people’s lives.”
Trent, whose PAC has launched ads pressuring Manchin to support $2,000 direct payments, noted the job losses in the last month, adding, “We’re seeing things get worse, not better … to think that we can just close our eyes and hope for the best would be insane at this point.”
Manchin and Ocasio-Cortez are at opposite ends of the Democratic political spectrum, with the West Virginia senator representing a red state where President Trump is especially popular.
They have battled over various issues over the last several weeks.
