Sirota says health insurers had ‘big initial win’ in Biden’s emergency coronavirus plan

David Sirota, founder of The Daily Poster, said health insurance companies achieved a “big, initial win” in Biden’s COVID-19 relief plan.

Speaking on Hill TV’s “Rising,” Sirota said it was a big win when Biden didn’t include a public health insurance option in his plan or expand Medicare. Instead, Biden’s plan would offer subsidies for people to achieve coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

“That’s a big win, a big initial win for the private health insurance industry. The private health insurance industry does not want a public option, does not want an expansion of Medicare,” Sirota said.

Sirota noted that lobby groups for the private health insurance industry wrote a letter to lawmakers several weeks ago asking for more subsidies for private insurance and COBRA coverage.
