Ex-Sanders aide addresses Ocasio-Cortez comments on progress under Biden

A former spokeswoman for Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Wednesday to discuss a growing debate on the left over how much progress can be made towards progressive political goals under a Biden administration.

During the interview, Briahna Joy Gray discussed comments made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) during a recent interview with Democratic Left, an online magazine run by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), in which Ocasio-Cortez rejected the idea that real progress towards progressive goals could not be made while President Biden was in office.

Her comments are “very frustrating” to activists who in many cases represent “some of the most vulnerable people in the world who have been cut out of the more moderate interventions, even some of the more significant interventions that the Biden administration has been able to accomplish so far.”

“Let’s say that our votes are contingent on something to make him a more accountable president” in a time of crisis, she argued in response.
