David Sirota, founder of The Daily Poster, joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Friday to discuss a push by three conservative Democrats for President Biden to guarantee that state and local tax (SALT) deductions will be reinstated in the Democrats’ upcoming infrastructure legislation.
Speaking with hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, Sirota explained that progressives can learn from how Democratic Reps. Thomas Suozzi (N.Y.), Bill Pascrell (N.J.) and Josh Gottheimer (N.J.) have threatened to withhold their votes from the bill unless their priority is addressed.
“This is a wing of the party that is willing to play hardball for those priorities. And it’s a lesson to progressive Democrats that the only way to get to the negotiating table, to really have your demands taken seriously on something like the minimum wage is to use the power that you actually have,” Sirota said.
“These conservative Democrats understand that the power they have is in their votes,” he continued.
