Matt Stoller, research director at the American Economic Liberties Project, is urging President Biden to keep management consulting firm McKinsey away from the administration’s infrastructure projects, arguing the group has a “corrupt” history.
In an interview on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Stoller referred to his article published this week in which he pointed out that McKinsey was hired to implement an infrastructure rebuilding plan for Puerto Rico following 2017’s Hurricane Maria, but that this was a “disaster.”
“I don’t want the $2 trillion infrastructure bill to be stolen by government contractors like McKinsey or others,” Stoller said.
The author and journalist also reflected on former President Obama’s attempt at a high-speed rail program, in which he committed to spending $11 billion on the project in California and elsewhere.
“And it literally went entirely to consultants,” Stoller said. “There’s no high-speed rail, they didn’t do anything except hire consultants, who hired more consultants.”
“We can’t afford that,” he continued. “If you’re going to steal the money, you have to also build the high-speed rail.”
