Richard Hanania, president and founder of the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology, told Hill.TV that the political activism of progressives is contributing to the rise of “woke capital.”
“All institutions are liberal,” Hanania argued, adding that while there is roughly an even split among conservatives and liberals at companies and organizations, progressives tend to be more active in politics.
“Basically, the demographic that is engaging in more activism is the one that’s going to be able to influence institutions in its favor,” he said.
Corporate America has become increasingly outspoken on political issues this year following the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Many companies have paused campaign donations to Republican lawmakers who objected to the 2020 Electoral College results, while others have criticized pending and enacted legislation in GOP-led states.
