Khanna outlines how progressives will push in climate infrastructure proposal

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) told Hill.TV’s “Rising” how progressives plan to secure climate provisions should an infrastructure proposal be split into two bills.

Khanna said that if a proposal is split into two bills, progressives will be “very clear” that the second bill, which would likely have more progressive priorities, has to pass the Senate through budget reconciliation — which would allow the upper chamber to pass the bill without Republican support.

“If they are going to cut it into two bills, the progressives will be very clear that the second bill must pass the Senate through reconciliation before the House is going to vote on any bipartisan bill,” Khanna said.

“In other words, we’re not going to just take the Senate’s word for it that they will do reconciliation down the line,” he continued. “When we vote, we want to make sure that climate is part of it and has already passed the Senate.”
