Daily Caller reporter blasts media’s ‘dismissive’ early coverage of lab leak theory

Daily Caller reporter Samantha Renck slammed main stream media’s “dismissive” coverage of the theory that the coronavirus originated from a lab in Wuhan, China, in the early months of the pandemic.

Renck joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” to discuss legacy media’s early coverage of the lab leak theory which has recently gained renewed attention to explain the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor said in late May that he believed further investigation into the theory after it gained traction in public health circles in the U.S. At the time, President Biden also asked the intelligence community to redouble its efforts to probe the origins of COVID-19.

The journalist argued that early coverage of the theory was “high, highly” irresponsible.

“The legacy media’s coverage of COVID-19 from the start… was this attitude that was very dismissive of the lab leak theory, often calling it a conspiracy theory,” Renck said.

“Being so dismissive of a theory that actually had a lot of credibility back in the early days. To dismiss that is highly, highly irresponsible of the media,” she continued. “Especially for these outlets that a lot of people throughout the question turn to.”
