Zaid Jilani: ‘I don’t think’ anyone will try to defund the police after Milley’s comments

Journalist Zaid Jilani on Monday said he does not think “anyone’s going to try to defund the military,” after some prominent Republicans suggested holding the military’s funding following Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley’s comments that said it was important for service members to understand critical race theory.

Milley, during a hearing last week with the House Armed Service Committee, rejected the notion held by a number of Republicans that critical race theory and other similar teachings could be damaging, telling lawmakers that “a lot of us have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is.”

“I do think it’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and be widely read … and it is important that we train and we understand… I want to understand white rage, and I’m white,” Milley said.

Milley’s comment sparked outrage among Republicans, including prominent Fox News host Laura Ingraham. The anchor suggested holding military funding until notions like critical race theory are dissolved.

Jilani, however, said he does not think anyone will try to defund the military based on one’s general’s comments.

“I don’t really think anyone’s gonna try to defund the military because they didn’t like what one General was doing or they don’t like some of the trainings or programs within the military,” Jilani said during an appearance on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”
