Kim Ives, English language editor at weekly newspaper Haiti Liberté, said that while there have been conflicting reports on who was behind the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, it has become clear that Colombian actors were involved.
In an interview on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Ives responded to some speculation circulating on social media that Moïse had been tortured before he was killed, due to severe damage to his body seen in autopsy photos that spread online.
“There’s been a lot of speculation that he might have been killed by his security detail, because people thought that he may have been tortured because he was missing an eye, as autopsy photos that went out on social media indicated, and they showed that his body was pretty beat up— broken bones, he was shot up,” the editor explained.
Ives said that Haiti Liberté confirmed through a person who spoke with Haitian first lady Martine Moïse, who was also shot during the attack and was transported to Florida for treatment, that “the Colombians” shot her before shooting and killing the president.
“We consulted a pathologist who looked at the x-rays and pictures and said what he saw was consistent with damage and trauma that a machine gun would make if shot at somebody at close range,” Ives said.
