Former Iowa congressional candidate J.D. Scholten on Thursday said the Democratic Party is “getting blown out of the water” by “not connecting to voters where they’re at.”
Scholten, when asked during an interview on Hill.TV’s “Rising” about the forthcoming infrastructure reconciliation bill and which priorities Democrats should include in it, said it does not matter what the party passes because it has an issue with constituents receiving messages regarding policy.
He cited a recent poll that found that 50 percent of rural battleground voters who received stimulus checks knew they had come from President Biden, but 39 percent thought they had come from former President Trump.
Scholten, who recently joined RuralVote.org as executive director, said regardless of what policies or initiatives are passed, a “big disconnect” is leading to messages not being received properly.
“There’s a big disconnect so it doesn’t matter what they pass, the message isn’t getting through, and that’s where we feel the need for RuralVote.org is to help bridge that because people aren’t just watching nightly news anymore, they’re getting their information from all over the place and especially Facebook,” Scholten said.
“And so that’s one area where I feel the Democratic Party is getting blown out of the water, is not getting connected to voters where they’re at,” he added.
