RealClearPolitics reporter Philip Wegmann says Rep. Paul Gosar’s (R-Ariz.) proposal to put a 10-year freeze on all immigration into the United States shows a lack of ‘a unifying theme’ among Republicans opposing President Biden.
Gosar unveiled the proposal last week, arguing that the moratorium on immigration was needed to allow the U.S. to deal with illegal immigration.
Speaking on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Wegmann said that while Gosar’s proposal will certainly not advance in the House, his rhetoric reflects a lack of unity in the GOP’s opposition to Biden.
“You have leadership groups like the NRSC, you’ve got [House Minority Leader Kevin] McCarthy and [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell and others who are in the trenches trying to hold back Biden. And yet there isn’t enough of a unifying theme,’” Wegmann said.
“Instead, you have some House member sort of shooting at the hip when it comes to policy positions and shifting the conversation in a really unrealistic way rather than getting Republicans to march lockstep towards whatever opposition front that they want to advance against the White House,” he continued.
