Daily Poster founder David Sirota says the argument from moderate House Democrats for voting on the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package separately from the $3.5 trillion reconciliation package is a “fake argument.”
A group of nine Democrats, led by Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) have pushed Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to pass the infrastructure package separately, arguing that the package was urgent to begin certain infrastructure projects in their districts.
Speaking on Hill TV’s “Rising,” Sirota, said the argument was a “misdirect” for the fact that the members’ biggest oppose the larger reconciliation package which includes funding for Democratic priorities such as climate change and anti-poverty.
“The argument that we can’t wait two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, because we need to get the shovels in the ground — that doesn’t make any sense in the real world. It’s a fake argument,” Sirota said.
“It is a misdirect designed to distract from what’s really at play here,” he continued. “These members of Congress — their biggest donors — want that infrastructure bill. They do not want the anti-poverty, climate budget bill. That is exactly what’s going on here.”
