New York congressional hopeful calls for fully funded health care in the US

Brittany Ramos DeBarros, an Afghanistan war veteran and a congressional candidate for New York’s 11th congressional district, said the U.S. should “fully fund health care for everyone,” contending that such a decision would be good for veterans and troops.

“I think we need to fully fund the VA [Veterans Affairs] and more importantly we need to fully fund health care for everyone,” DeBarros said during a Friday appearance on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”

“That is good for veterans, that is good for the troops, and it’s something that we absolutely could afford if we were, you know, if we had leaders that were making decisions based on moral priorities that really center justice and human life,” she added.

DeBarros made this plea after noting that “almost half” of the military’s budget goes to corporations, contending that the situation needs to be addressed “at a systemic level.”

“A lot of folks don’t realize that almost half of the military budget goes to corporations. It has not always been that way, and I think that we really need to address that at a systemic level,” she said.
