Nevada congressional candidate says she was ‘drafted’ to run

Nevada Democratic congressional candidate Amy Vilela says she was “drafted” to mount a second campaign for Congress.

Vilela, who is looking to unseat Rep. Dina Titus (D) to represent Nevada’s 1st Congressional District, joined Hill TV’s “Rising” to discuss why she decided to make another run for Congress following an unsuccessful campaign in 2018.

Vilela said that as she was volunteering to help with the coronavirus pandemic, she kept hearing that “leadership is nowhere to be found.”

“When I was out in the district here during COVID, I was making mass for frontline workers. I was also organizing food drives. The thing I kept hearing time and time again, is that our leadership is nowhere to be found, and I was drafted to run,” Vilela said.

Vilela’s first campaign, in which she lost to Rep. Steven Horsford (D) for Nevada’s 4th Congressional District, is featured in the Nextflix documentary “Knock Down The House.”
