Musician and labor historian Joey La Neve DeFrancesco said on Monday that labor protesters need to become more organized, saying the large wave of people leaving their jobs this past month is a sign of disorganization.
“I think we need to get organized. You know we’re seeing people quit in these huge numbers, you know, 4.3 million people quit their jobs over the last month, and you know that’s a reflection of unorganized workers being very frustrated,” DeFrancesco said while appearing on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”
As DeFrancesco put it, workers in largely unorganized industries like the service industry are leaving in droves. But other workers like musicians and Amazon workers are also beginning to demand better working conditions.
“That’s likely having some effect to push wages to push working conditions up and that’s good, but if we’re really going to get somewhere we have to as workers get into these places that aren’t organized,” he added. “The quitting is great, refusing these conditions is great but we also need to be getting organized.”
