Former Ohio Democratic Party chair David Pepper said the current generation of politicians have “never been in a democracy.”
Speaking on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Pepper was asked if he’s seen a difference in “extremist politicians” over the past decade.
“Ten years ago… you had conservative people. Now, you have people who are being egged on and pushed forward. And we’re seeing an explosion of these right-wing laws at this moment on voting, on how do you count ballots, and it’s only accelerating,” he said.
Pepper asserted that this new generation of politicians has never faced accountability due to gerrymandering, so they keep passing laws even when they violate the Constitution.
“Basically, this is a generation of politicians who’ve essentially never been in a democracy,” Pepper said. “They’ve never worried about the next election, so they keep going, and going, and going. And they learn as they go, so it only gets worse.”
