Briahna Joy Gray, the host of the Bad Faith podcast, said the White House is setting up Vice President Kamala Harris to usher in another candidate.
The White House is “intentionally putting her in a position where they can have a plausible excuse to move past her. The article cites a possibility of moving her into a Supreme Court position in a way to promote her up and out of the way to make room for someone like Pete Buttgieg,” Gray said on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”
Gray’s comments come off the back of a CNN report that highlighted frustrations between Harris’s team and other White House officials.
Harris has been tasked under President Biden over difficult issues such as the southern border and voting rights, with Harris aides saying the vice president is not getting assignments where she can succeed.
After the CNN report, White House aides ran to Harris’s side on Twitter, tweeting their support for the work Harris has done.
Gray said the White House should be more concerned about Harris not receiving support among the American people than a media report.
“The people have not been that fond of Kamala Harris. She has historically low approval ratings for vice president especially considering she hasn’t done much of anything,” Gray said.
The media “framed her as the next Barack Obama” in the 2020 presidential primary, Gray added, which “might have worked against her because a lot of people woke up to the fact that representational politics doesn’t move the country forward in the way that people had hoped with Barack Obama.”
