Gallup’s Mohamed Younis: Foreign policy interventionism a ‘low desire’ for Americans

Gallup’s Mohamed Younis joined Hill.TV on Thursday to discuss Americans’ perception of foreign policy interventionism amid growing worries about a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Younis said there is fatigue among many Americans when it comes to interventionism. The U.S. just ended the longest war in its history in Afghanistan, where the U.S.-backed government fell to the Taliban as U.S. troops exited.

“We know from our trends that foreign policy interventionism continues to be a low desire for the American public,” he said.

Despite this, 8 in 10 Americans support NATO being maintained, and 6 in 10 believe it’s important to defend our allies, Younis added.
