Journalist Lincoln Jay says truckers in Ottawa ‘aren’t going anywhere’ amid Freedom Convoy

Rebel News journalist Lincoln Jay, who has been reporting from Ottawa, said the truckers involved in the Freedom Convoy to protest vaccine mandates in Canada were showing no indication of departing anytime soon.

“It has become quite clear at this point that the truckers aren’t going anywhere and they just want these mandates lifted here in Canada,” Jay said on Hill TV’s “Rising.”

“I’ve been speaking to so many truckers throughout my time here and none of them have insinuated that they have any plans of leaving any time soon,” he added.

“They really believe that they can make a difference and get these mandates lifted so they don’t want to leave until they at least hear some response from the government and potentially get these mandates lifted,” Jay also said. “It’s unprecedented and we’re just here to follow it wherever it goes.”

Multiple people have been arrested as part of the Freedom Convoy, which began as a protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates for truckers in Canada and has mushroomed into a demonstration against public health mandates and the government more generally.

On Sunday, the Ottawa Police Service announced that it had launched 60 criminal investigations related to the protests, as a result of infractions ranging from mischief and thefts to hate crimes.

That same day, Ottawa’s mayor declared a state of emergency over the protests in response to “the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations.”

The protests were prompted by a decision by Canada to require that truck drivers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the country, a policy similar to the U.S. requirements for truck drivers crossing borders.
