Former U.S. arms negotiator: Western Europe is funding Russian aggression through energy purchases

Democratic Missouri Senate candidate Lucas Kunce, said on Tuesday that Western Europe is funding Russia’s military aggression through its reliance on Russian energy.

During an interview with Hill.TV’s “Rising” the former Pentagon arms control negotiator called for investments into new energy sources avoid Europe’s reliance on Russia.

“I did arms control negotiations with Russia, I’ve sat across the table from Russia, I’ve been to NATO and tried to get our allies on board to take hard positions against these guys,” Kunce said.

“And like what nobody is talking about right now is the fact that this invasion — it’s funded by Western European countries and their gas purchases from Russia. And the people who they expect to, you know, pick up the tab is … U.S. Treasury and Ukrainian blood,” he added.

Kunce called for investments in the “next generation of energy” in the U.S. in order to counter the current situation in Europe.

According to Kunce, similar investments made in Ukraine are akin to “putting a Band-Aid on a cancer ulcer. It doesn’t change the problem.”
