Democratic pollster Carly Cooperman said on Wednesday that President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court will help to galvanize Democrats ahead of the midterm elections in November.
“This is kind of one more thing for the Democrats in terms of rallying the base, galvanizing opinion,” Cooperman, a partner at Schoen Consulting, told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
“You’re having a pro-life judge being nominated to the Supreme Court months before the midterm elections already when there’s a lot of anger,” she added.
While conservatives have hailed Trump’s decision to nominate Kavanaugh, liberals and Democrats have slammed the move, fearing his stances on issues such as health care and abortion.
Democrats have expressed concerns that Kavanaugh could work to overturn Roe v. Wade and have also raised questions on how his nomination could impact special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia’s election meddling.
Kavanaugh will likely face a tough confirmation battle in the Senate, but Republicans have the votes to confirm him without any Democratic assistance.
