Polling analyst: Same Dems who voted for Gorsuch will vote for Kavanaugh

Morning Consult senior polling reporter Cameron Easley predicted Friday that the same Senate Democrats who voted for Justice Neil Gorsuch will vote for President Trump’s latest Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

“I think the same Senate Democrats who voted for Neil Gorsuch … Joe Donnelly [Ind.], Heidi Heitkamp [N.D.] and [Joe] Manchin [W.Va.], will do the same [on Kavanaugh],” Easley told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”

Still, Easley noted that other Senate Democrats up for reelection this year in states won by President Trump in 2016, such as Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), could opt to vote against Kavanaugh.

“I think McCaskill is going to be a little bit concerned about base enthusiasm, it seems like there are some signs there as well, and I think Bill Nelson might have the same issue in Florida, so I would expect them to vote no,” he said.

McCaskill has taken heat from her likely Republican opponent Josh Hawley for her vote on Gorsuch.

Hawley launched a campaign ad attacking McCaskill’s decision to vote against Gorsuch last March, saying she put her party ahead of Missouri in the vote.
