HarrisX CEO Dritan Nesho said on Monday that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) would be the “X-factor” among Democratic candidates if he runs for president.
“I would say there’s no popular senators out there in terms of gaining majority approval, and this should be worrying to Democrats as they think about 2020,” Nesho told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
“None of their leading candidates, who are senators, really garner more than the low ten percentage,” he continued, referring to Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), and Cory Booker (N.J.), who are all reportedly mulling 2020 presidential bids.
“Do you put Bernie Sanders [I-Vt.] in that category?” Concha asked. “Because he’s an Independent now, but he ran as a Democrat, and he could very easily do that again.”
“Sanders is quite popular. If Sanders were to run, he would be the X-factor in the election,” Nesho responded.
A Morning Consult poll released in April from the first quarter of 2018 showed Sanders with a 72 percent approval rating, making him the most popular senator in the survey.
The same poll showed Harris with a 44 percent approval rating and Warren with a 54 percent approval rating. Forty-nine percent of those polled said they approved of Booker.
