Democrats are attracted to former Senate candidate Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) because he has brought civility into politics, political analyst Bill Schneider said in an interview that aired Tuesday on Hill.TV’s “What America’s Thinking.”
“Democrats have to make a decision,” Schneider told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on Monday. “Do they want someone who’s going to stand up to Trump, fight with him, and create a real mayhem in the country? A lot of Democrats do.”
“Or do they want someone very different from Donald Trump, which I think would be … Beto O’Rourke, who represents something that people aren’t getting from Donald Trump, civility,” he continued.
O’Rourke was defeated by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in last month’s midterm elections, but has been seen as a potential 2020 Democratic contender due to his performance in the race. He initially threw cold water on a possible bid against Trump for the presidency, but has recently opened up to the possibility.
The Texas lawmaker led former Vice President Joe Biden by little more than half a percentage point in a straw poll from the progressive group MoveOn.org that was released Tuesday.
