Republican pollster Jim Hobart said Friday that he expects President Trump to keep his approach of issuing policy changes and announcing initiatives on short notice.
“In a lot of other administrations, you see a little bit of a run-up to major policy initiatives or to changes,” Hobart, a partner at Public Opinion Strategies, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“You haven’t seen that with this president. It’s not something that I expect to see start anytime soon,” he said.
Hobart’s comments come two days after Trump’s declaration on Twitter that ISIS had been defeated in Syria, signaling that U.S. troops would be withdrawing from the war-torn country.
The White House confirmed in a statement that the administration has “started returning United States troops home” but emphasized that coalition efforts in Syria would carry on. It also reiterated Trump’s claim that “the United States has defeated the territorial caliphate.”
Various administration officials, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were left in the dark about Trump’s policy change on Syria, according to The Washington Post.
