GOP pollster says Democratic talk of impeaching Trump is ‘gift’ for Republicans

Republican pollster Ashlee Rich Stephenson said Wednesday that Democratic talk about impeaching President Trump is a gift for Republicans.

Stephenson specially pointed to Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) saying last week that she would work to “impeach the motherf—er,” referring to Trump.

“Just the fact that three days into this new Congress, we have a woman elected from Michigan-13, in a swing seat potentially, using cuss words, where it should be a time to celebrate the new Congress regardless of partisanship,” Stephenson, chief strategy officer at WPA Intelligence, told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha.

“They just cannot keep their eye on the ball on issues,” she continued. “They want to talk about impeachment, and that’s the gift that keeps on giving for Republicans.”

Various progressive Democrats, including Tlaib, have called for Trump’s impeachment amid the ongoing probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election

But the party’s leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), have said impeaching Trump will not be a priority for the new Congress.

“I do think that we want to be unified and bring people together. Impeachment is a very divisive approach to take and we shouldn’t take it … without the facts,” Pelosi told MSNBC last week.
