Political analyst says religious right will tolerate anything with Trump because he has delivered on SCOTUS

Political analyst Bill Schneider said in an interview that aired Wednesday on “What America’s Thinking” that the religious right will tolerate anything President Trump does because he has delivered on appointing conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

“I once had a discussion with some people on the religious right, and I said how do you support Donald Trump? His lifestyle, his values, they’re nothing like yours. They’re nothing like a religious Christian. Why do you people support him so strongly,” Schneider told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on Tuesday.

“And they give me an interesting answer. They said he delivers,” he continued. “And what he delivered they mentioned specifically was the thing that they have been waiting for, for 50 years. He gave us the Supreme Court, and for that anything can be tolerated.”

Trump has largely delivered on his campaign promise to appoint conservative judges to courts across the country.

He also tilted the balance of the Supreme Court during his first two years in office, with the appointments of Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

Polling shows that conservative Christians appear to be happy with Trump’s tenure in office.

A recent NPR/PBS News Hour/Marist poll found that while Trump’s support was down with white evangelicals amid the government shutdown, 66 percent of those respondents said they supported him.
