Pollster Nancy Zdunkewicz on Monday said that in the age of the Trump administration Americans “are more interested than ever” in becoming politically active.
“People are very excited and paying attention even though there’s all this bad news and high ‘wrong track’ numbers in the country,” Zdunkewicz, managing editor at Democracy Corps, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
She said that despite not liking the tone, Americans are more interested than ever in being a “part of the process.”
“People are not turning off their interest and becoming part of the process. They are more interested than ever,” she continued.
Zdunkewicz pointed to the record turnout in the 2018 midterms, which saw Democrats make gains the House and state legislatures across the U.S.
Voter enthusiasm appears to already be increasing on both sides ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
A Democracy Corps survey released last week found that 51 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Democratic candidate in the 2020 elections, while 41 percent said they would cast their vote for President Trump.
However, the poll showed that Trump supporters appeared to contain the most enthusiasm.
Eighty-one percent of Trump’s supporters placed their level of interest in voting at the highest point in a one-to-ten scale, 6 points ahead of the number of Democrats who said the same.
