Public opinion analyst Karlyn Bowman said in an interview that aired Thursday on “What America’s Thinking” that the Supreme Court tends to be more popular than the other branches of government because it isn’t consistently in the news.
“The court isn’t in the news all the time,” Bowman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on Wednesday.
“That’s why it’s more popular than the executive branch or the legislature,” she continued.
A Gallup survey released last year that 53 percent of Americans approved of the Supreme Court.
However, amid the recent 35-day-long government shutdown, Gallup found last week that a lower number of Americans approved of President Trump and Congress.
Thirty-seven percent of respondents said they approved of the job Trump was doing in office, while 20 percent said they approved of lawmakers’ jobs in Congress.
The Supreme Court has made news in the opening weeks of 2019, last week ruling to allow the Trump administration to temporarily enforce its restrictions on transgender individuals serving in the military.
