Democratic pollster Carly Cooperman said in an interview that aired Thursday on “What America’s Thinking” that most gun owners want there to be gun safety measures for people looking to purchase firearms.
“One thing that I think has been particularly interesting that we’ve seen is that people who are gun owners themselves actually do want there to be gun safety measures in place,” Cooperman, a partner at Schoen Consulting, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on Wednesday.
“They take gun ownership very seriously, and they want to see other people use guns responsibly,” she continued.
Cooperman’s comments come one year after the Parkland, Fla., shooting, which spurred the March for Our Lives movement and intense calls for stricter gun control measures.
The Giffords Law Center, a gun control advocacy group, found in a poll one month after the shooting last year that 69 percent of National Rifle Association members expressed support for comprehensive background checks.
The poll also found that 78 percent of gun owners, who are not NRA members, also said they supported more comprehensive background checks.
