GOP pollster says Michelle Obama one of Democrats’ best surrogates

Republican pollster Ed Goeas on Tuesday told Hill.TV that former first lady Michelle Obama is one of the best surrogates for the Democratic Party, along with former President Obama.

“She is amazing,” Goeas, president and CEO of the Tarrance Group, told host Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking,” referring to Obama.

“In the last campaign, I always thought the two best surrogates for either party were the president and Michelle Obama, and I think that continues.”

“She has a way of kind of connecting with people,” he continued. “Usually you have first ladies that … take on an atmosphere of being rather endearing in terms of the way they present themselves. She was far beyond that in terms of connecting with people.”

The Obamas hit the campaign trail for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016, and hold immense popularity within the Democratic Party.

The former first lady has said she does not plan on launching a presidential bid in the future.

A new Hill-HarrisX survey released on Tuesday found that 25 percent of Democrats said they would back the former first lady in the Democratic primary, tying with former Vice President Joe Biden, who still has not announced his 2020 intentions.
