Pollster says most Americans view Cohen testimony as ‘inside baseball’

Pollster Mallory Newall told Hill.TV on Friday that Michael Cohen’s widely watched congressional testimony this week amounted to “inside baseball.”

“This political theater that we’re seeing is sort of inside baseball,” Newall, research director at Ipsos Public Affairs, told host Krystal Ball on “What America’s Thinking.”

“There’s a plurality of Americans that have no opinion or no idea this was happening,” she continued.

Cohen, who is Trump’s former lawyer, gave dramatic testimony in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Thursday, referring to the president as a “racist” and a “con man.”

Among other claims, Cohen alleged that Trump was aware that WikiLeaks had planned to release troves of emails in 2016 meant to damage Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. WikiLeaks and former longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone have denied those claims.

Cohen also said he had not seen any evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

A new Hill-HarrisX survey, released on Friday, found that 39 percent of registered had not yet formed an opinion on Cohen’s testimony.

The poll found that 37 percent of registered voters said they found Cohen’s testimony to be credible, while 25 percent said they did not find him credible in the hearing.
