Republican pollster Ed Goeas told “What America’s Thinking” on Monday that the Russians are most likely satisfied with the results of their 2016 election interference.
“I think the unfortunate thing, and unfortunately we don’t talk about it enough, is the Russians got exactly what they wanted out of this,” Goeas, CEO of The Tarrance Group, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons.
“They got a distrust with certain groups of Americans about the election, about the system and about our democracy,” he continued.
“We’re kind of fighting with each other, and they’re sitting back, smiling at every bit of it because the ones that really wanted this to happen are the Russians,” Goeas added. “That’s unfortunate that we can’t take a step back, resolve this one way or the other.”
Russia has denied its meddling in the 2016 presidential election, which the U.S. intelligence community believes was undertaken with the intention of helping to elect President Trump.
Attorney General William Barr sent Congress his summary of special counsel Robert Mueller‘s findings in the federal probe into Moscow’s election interference on Sunday.
Mueller says he found no evidence of conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.
Barr said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, upon reviewing Mueller’s findings, determined that the president did not obstruct justice.
The summary marked the end of 22 months of speculation over the outcome of the investigation, which divided Americans along partisan lines.
