Almost half of Americans expect Attorney General William Barr will redact the Mueller report in a way that’s favorable to President Trump, political reporter Eli Yokley told Hill.TV on Wednesday.
“The challenge for AG Barr, and I think this aired out in the hearing this week, is the fact that nobody really trusts him to redact it,” Yokley, a reporter at Morning Consult, told Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“About half of voters, we found, don’t have any trust in him to do it in a way that would not be favorable to Trump,” he added. “That’s going to be a big challenge for the Justice Department moving forward.”
Yokley was referring to a Morning Consult poll conducted late last month that found that 46 percent of registered voters surveyed said they do not trust the administration to release the report without first redacting information that is politically damaging.
Forty-eight percent of respondents said they do not think the Trump administration has the right to redact parts of the report from special counsel Robert Mueller.
Barr told a House panel on Tuesday that he plans to release a redacted version of the report within a week.
