Pollster says Trump will ‘double down’ on voter base in 2020

Pollster Dritan Nesho told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons in an interview that aired on Thursday that President Trump will double down on his voter base to get reelected in 2020.

“I think he’ll double down because the majority of people who do show up at the voting booth and in polls tend to skew older,” Nesho, the CEO of HarrisX, said on “What America’s Thinking.”

“Yes, Trump has been losing ground with younger voters, especially millennial voters, but he’s got plenty of middle-aged and older voters in his coalition to be able to push through,” he continued.

Trump’s base has been loyal to him throughout his presidency, despite turbulent events such as special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s election meddling and the partial government shutdown over border security.

The president has also worked to appeal to his base on numerous issues, most notably border security and his campaign promise to build a wall along the southern border.

A Gallup tracking poll released earlier this month showed Trump’s approval rating at 89 percent among Republicans, but 45 percent overall.
