Public opinion analyst Karlyn Bowman told Hill.TV’s “What America’s Thinking” on Monday that Americans are “very concerned” and “at a loss” when it comes to election meddling by Russia.
“I think Americans are very concerned about Russian involvement in the election, and I think they’re sort of at a loss of exactly what we do about it given the way that the images and messages are transmitted overall,” Bowman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told host Jamal Simmons.
“So in that sense, I think they recognize there’s a lot of foreign interference in elections,” she said. “A lot of U.S. interference in elections. This is not new, but again, I think people are deeply concerned about what Russia has done.”
Bowman’s comments come just days after Attorney General William Barr released a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s long-anticipated report on Russia’s election meddling.
Mueller detailed Moscow’s efforts to try to help Trump win the 2016 election, but noted that the Trump campaign did not directly assist the Kremlin.
The special counsel described how a Russian troll farm connected to the Kremlin worked to create divisions among the American public on social media.
The report also detailed how Russian intelligence officers hacked both the Democratic National Committee and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton‘s campaign chairman John Podesta.
