Public opinion analyst Karlyn Bowman said in an interview that aired Tuesday on Hill.TV that voters in crucial, early nominating states like Iowa are not talking to presidential candidates about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, or the possible impeachment of President Trump.
“Reporters who have been tagging along with candidates in Iowa report hearing very little about impeachment or the Mueller investigation,” Bowman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told host Jamal Simmons on Monday.
She added that candidates are getting questions about health care and the state of the economy instead.
Democrats are divided on whether to pursue impeachment in the wake of the special counsel’s report, and details it contained on whether Trump obstructed justice.
The party’s presidential candidates had been largely focused on other issues until Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called on the House to begin impeachment proceedings.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) announced on Monday that she too, believed it was time for the House to start impeachment proceedings against the president.
Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro and Miramar, Fla., Mayor Wayne Messam, both 2020 candidates, have also said they support impeachment proceedings.
