Republican strategist B.J. Martino predicted in an interview that aired Wednesday that President Trump’s approval rating would likely not change significantly in the near future.
“I think the thing to watch in the president’s job approval [is] it is not going to move outside of the margin of error over the next several months, unless, again, something big happens,” Martino, a partner at the Tarrance Group, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
Martino adding that any major movement in Trump’s approval rating in the future would be attributed to the intensity of his base’s enthusiasm.
“We do see swings in the number,” he continued. “Like a [government] shutdown, we saw it come down. When positive things happen and there’s good news, we see it swing up. I really think when you see that it is about movements in base intensity.”
Trump’s approval rating has stayed within the 40 percent range in recent months.
The Real Clear Politics approval average showed Trump at 42.4 percent on Wednesday.
