A majority of voters think the country is off on the wrong track, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Sixty-Two percent of registered voters surveyed said the country is on the wrong track in the Nov. 27-30 survey.
By contrast, 38 percent of respondents said they think the country is on the right track.
The survey found 47 percent of Republican voters said the country is on the right track while 53 percent said it is off on the wrong track, while 30 percent of Democrats said the nation is headed in the right direction and 70 percent said the wrong track.
Independent respondents sided more with Democrats, with 37 percent saying the country is on the right track and 63 percent saying the opposite.
“What we’re seeing now is very significant partisan differences on the question as you found in your poll overall with significant differences between Democrats and Republicans,” Karlyn Bowman, public opinion analyst and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Hill.TV.
“Many Republicans are more likely to say that the country is off on the right track. That may change when Biden becomes President because so much in our society is polarized today,” Bowman added.
President-elect Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated on January 20, but President Trump has yet to concede the 2020 presidential race.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,825 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 1.84 percentage points.
