A majority of voters support National Guard troops remaining in Washington, D.C. until March 2021, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Sixty percent of registered voters in the Jan. 28-29 survey said they support the troops remaining in the nation’s capitol until the spring.
The survey found a slightly higher number of voters support National gGuard troops remaining in Washington, D.C. specifically because of the concerns about unrest at upcoming events and protests.
Eighty-eight percent of Democrats support troops in D.C., along with 62 percent of independents.
By contrast, 67 percent of Republican respondents oppose.
Pentagon officials revealed last month that roughly 5,000 National Guard troops plan to remain in Washington, D.C. until mid-March.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 945 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.19 percentage points.
