Poll: 53 percent support second Trump impeachment trial

Voters are split over whether or not they approve of the Senate holding an impeachment trial for former President Trump.

Fifty-three percent of registered voters in the Feb. 8-9 survey said they approve of the Senate’s impeachment trial of Trump now that he’s a former president and has left office.

By contrast, 47 percent of respondents disapproved of the trial.

Not surprisingly, results in the poll had a partisan edge.

Eighty-five percent of Democrats approve of the trial along with 55 percent of independents, but 82 percent of Republicans oppose having the trial.

Tuesday marked the first day of Trump’s historic second impeachment trial in the Senate.

The most recent Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 938 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points.
