Almost 9 in 10 voters say unemployment in the U.S. is either a “big” or “moderate” problem, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Fifty-one percent of registered voters in the Feb. 12-15 survey said unemployment in the country is a big problem while 37 percent said it’s a moderate problem.
Nine percent of respondents in the poll said the country’s unemployment rate is a small problem.
Three percent said unemployment is not a problem.
Fifty-four percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents said unemployment in the U.S. is a big problem.
Almost half, 49 percent, of Republicans agree.
The poll comes as new jobless claims surged to a seasonally adjusted 861,000 in the second week of February, according to the latest data from the Labor Department.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,835 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 1.83 percentage points.
