The coronavirus pandemic along with the economy and immigration top voters’ list of problems facing the country, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Four in 10 registered voters, 40 percent, in the May 10-11 survey said the coronavirus pandemic is the most important problem facing the U.S., while 11 percent said the economy and 10 percent said immigration.
Five percent of voters named health care as the country’s top issue, while 4 percent said corruption.
A majority of Democrats, 54 percent, said the virus was the most important problem facing the country while 10 percent said the economy and 6 percent said health care.
Forty-two percent of independents named COVID-19 as the top issue facing the country while 8 percent said the economy and 6 percent said immigration.
Twenty-six percent of Republicans said the pandemic was the most important issue while 22 percent said immigration and 14 percent said the economy.
The survey comes as more Americans across the country continue to receive the coronavirus vaccine, allowing for more restrictions to be lifted.
Despite localities opening up, last week’s jobs report fell short of expectations, with the U.S. economy adding 266,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate rising to 6.1 percent.
The most recent Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 918 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.23 percentage points.
