Poll: Congressional approval jumps ten points in six months

Congress’ approval rating jumped ten percentage points in the past six months but still lands underwater, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.

Forty-four percent of registered voters in the May 30-June 1 survey said they approve of the way Congress is doing its job, up from 34 percent in a December 2020 poll.

By contrast, 56 percent of voters in the most recent Hill-HarrisX survey said they disapprove of Congress.

The survey found stark partisan differences.

Seventy-two percent of Republican respondents said they disapprove of Congress while 28 percent said the opposite.

Fifty-seven percent of Democratic respondents said they approve of the way Congress is doing its job while 43 percent disapprove.

Fifty-three percent of independent voters said they disapprove of Congress.

The survey comes as President Biden and Congress negotiate an infrastructure package and as Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill are at an impasse on several pieces of legislation.
